The weaponization of space has moved beyond science fiction. Technologies capable of extending military power into orbit already exist, while the United States, China and other nations maneuver for advantage and international treaties seek to keep space free of weapons.
Pax Americana and the Weaponization of Space looks at the American military and industrial role in this new space race, with access to US Air Force Space Command and perspectives from generals, space-policy analysts, politicians, diplomats, peace activists and military advocates. Questions of missile defense, commercial interests and American power are central to the discussion.
The consequences extend beyond military competition. Debris created by conflict in orbit could threaten satellites used for GPS, banking, media and other information systems.
Explore the competing arguments surrounding military power, international security and the future of space.
