Before becoming William the Conqueror, William had to secure his position as Duke of Normandy. From a vulnerable childhood in Fécamp to the revolt of powerful Norman barons, his early years were marked by struggles over authority, loyalty and legitimacy.
The documentary follows the key events that shaped his rise, including Valognes, Falaise and the battle of Val-ès-Dunes, where William fought alongside Henri I, king of France. A look at the formative years of the future conqueror of England.
